The Wilson Central High School Football team traveled to Kenwood High School to face off against the Knights this past Friday Night Sept 11. It was a high scoring game for the Wildcats as they ended up winning the game 49-19. The Wildcats started their scoring on their very first drive of the night with a 14-yard rushing touchdown from Zavier Ali. On the next drive, Ali rushed for his second touchdown with a 3-yard touchdown rush to put the Wildcats up 14-0. Kenwood’s Jaylen Washington threw a 15-yard touchdown to Jeremy Smith to make the score 14-7. Ali answered right back with another rushing touchdown, this time for 10 yards to the left front corner of the end zone. Ali’s third touchdown rush gave the Wildcats a 21-7 lead. The Wildcats extended the lead even more with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Tristan Lewis to Abe Gizaw. With 2:53 remaining in the second quarter, the Knights made the game a little bit more interesting with a 6-yard touchdown run from Washington. The extra point attempt was blocked and the score was 28-13. This score didn’t last long as Ali scored for the fourth time in just the first half of the game, with a 34-yard touchdown reception from Lewis. That touchdown gave the Wildcats a 35-13 score headed into halftime.
Even with the big lead, the Wildcats did not ease off the scoring in the second half. On their first drive of the second half, Lewis threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ezra Widelock. Later, in the fourth quarter, Washington scored his fourth touchdown for Kenwood with a 4-yard touchdown run. After a failed two-point conversion, the score was 42-19. The Wildcats quickly put away any thought of a comeback with a huge 90-yard touchdown pass from Lewis to Widelock with Estebon Hurtado hitting all 7 of his point after touchdown kicks. The great performances from Lewis and Widelock made them nominees for Wilson County player of the week. You can vote for them to win the award by voting for them on this link. Ali could have also been in conversation for Wilson County Player of the week with 188 yards from scrimmage and 4 total touchdowns.
