GREEN HILL– The Lady Cats completed their regular season sweep of the district newcomer Lady Hawks after a 3-0 trouncing in “The Nest.”
After suffering their first loss of the season only 8 days prior at the hands of the Siegel Lady Stars, Wilson Central found its way back on track with 3-0 blowouts of both District 9AAA foe Smyrna and non-conference opponent White House. This made way for the Lady Cats to continue their trend of domination with one of the few teams that went beyond 3 sets with third-year head coach Maci Lerno’s squad, Green Hill.
The Lady Hawks gave the Lady Cats a run for their money in the first set, going into extra points. However, the Lady Cats were still all to come out with a Set 1 win 27-25. Green Hill, made primarily of former Mt. Juliet volleyball players, tried to make a comeback. The Lady Hawks would put up at least 15 points in each of the next two sets, but it proved to be too little to get past the Lady Cats, led by primarily underclassmen, with the exception of Sydney Dalton and Campbell Strange.
Wilson Central took the second set 25-18 and the third 25-16. This came from the valiant effort of the Lady Cats’ two lone seniors, Dalton and Strange. Strange managed 7 kills, 4 block assists, and a solo block on the night, and Dalton left Green Hill with 7 kills as well, along with 3 aces, 5 block assists, and 1 solo block. Junior Natalee McDonald led the team in assists with 13, and she also had 3 digs. Taryn Wilson was the Wilson Central leader in digs with 13, and she managed 3 assists as well.
The Lady Cats will continue their stint on the road, traveling to cross-town rival Lebanon on Tuesday, September 15. Following this game, they will return home to host the Lady Wolverines of LaVergne on Thursday, September 17. This game will be broadcast on the NFHS Network
