Girls Varsity Soccer · Fall–Girls Soccer–Lady Cats Top Smyrna 4-1 Amidst Hot Streak

By: Jake Hood

SMYRNA– The Lady Cats continue their most successful year in recent history with a 4-1 defeat of Smyrna.

Wilson Central had an all-out scoring affair throughout the game. Only 10 minutes into the game, Emily Sanchez threaded the Lady Bulldogs to get a pass over to Emma Covell. Covell assisted Sadie Phelan, who rocketed the ball into the back of the net to send the Lady Cats up 1-0. Aubrey Katzenmiller followed with 2:20 remaining in the first half, beating her defender, sending the ball into the upper 90% from 20 yards out for Wilson Central’s second goal. Leah Grace Beazley found Phelan for the Lady Cats’ final goal of the half, scoring within the final minute.

In the second half, senior Cerenetie Hudson rocketed a free kick past the goalie for the Lady Cats’ final goal of the game. Smyrna scored on a corner kick that found its way past the Wilson Central defenders.

Stamina and agility brought by the Central offense proved to be too powerful for the Lady Bulldogs, as they allowed 4 goals. The superb defense from the Lady Cats was also overpowering for Smyrna, with the Lady Bulldogs’ only goal coming off of a defensive miscue from the Lady Cats.

Wilson Central will play next at Oakland on Tuesday, September 15, as the Lady Cats attempt to continue their hot streak.
