The Wilson Central High School Basketball Team faced off against their rival, Mt. Juliet (ranked #4 in Tennessee) this past Tuesday January 21. The result was not the one that Wilson Central wanted, however. The Wildcats kept it close throughout the first quarter tailing 14-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Golden Bears switched to a full court press at the beginning of the second quarter which bothered the boys in blue. Trailing 21-17 in the second, Mt. Juliet created some steals and easy attempts at the basket to extend their lead to 35-19. The full court press continued to be a menace to Wilson Central throughout the quarter as the Wildcats could only manage 7 points in the third while Mt. Juliet continued to score.
Defensively, the Wildcats had trouble stopping Mt. Juliet’s 3 point shooting. The Golden Bears hit 8 for 19 from downtown while the quickness of Mt. Juliet continued to bother the Wildcats. Wilson Central’s leading scorers were Adler Kerr and Caleb Lawrence , each scoring 10 points.
Wilson Central will look to have a better game this Friday in their Coming Home game against Hendersonville on January 24. Make sure to come watch the Coming Home festivities that take place between the girls and boys basketball games. Always remember, if you can’t make it to watch it live, you can tune in to our broadcast on NFHS Network.
