Following a tough season, the Lady Cats finished their 2019 regular season with a narrow victory over the Lady Bulldogs of Smyrna.
Senior night festivities started the night off, as the Lady Cats honored their quartet of 2020 graduates. These seniors are: Olivia Moser, Gracie Aric, Gabby Lewis, and Sophia Block.
The game started off slowly, as neither team found the scoreboard relatively quickly. Smyrna scored first, but their 1-0 lead did not last long. Wilson Central used an all-senior effort to take the lead. Gracie Aric managed to nail the Lady Cats’ first goal on a penalty kick with nineteen minutes remaining in the first half. Olivia Moser followed eight minutes later, sending a shot into the back of the net to give the Lady Cats a 2-1 lead going into the half.
The second half of play proved uneventful for both teams. Smyrna could not find a tie, as Gabby Lewis ended three Smyrna drives by clearing the ball. The game slowed down midway through the second half, and the Lady Cats could not extend their lead. Moser and Aric, along with underclassmen Leah Grace Beasley and Tabitha Dickson, controlled the game late in the second half, shutting out Smyrna for the remainder of the game.
The Lady Cats finish their 2019 regular season at 3-8 (3-4), and they will play DeKalb County on Tuesday, October 8. The match will be held at 7:00 p.m. at DeKalb County High School.
The District Tournament is slated to begin on Monday Oct 14th as the Lady Wildcats will play host to LaVergne with game slated to begin at 6:00pm.
GO LADY CATS!!!
