Wilson Central’s “Sports Information Department” is already making plans for the upcoming sports season 2019-20. Preparations are in full swing as the August 1 start of school is looming ever so quickly. Fall Sports are beginning to gear up for their season openers in August but its the Sports Information Department that work year round that spear heads the notifications to the general community about sports at Wilson Central. Sports Information Director Jay “Doc” Holladay mentors and guides students that want to be a part of athletics through the efforts of the SID. Students interested in photography, website processing, videography, statistics, announcing and many other areas are just a part of what the department does for Wilson Central. Holladay is always on the look out for interested students that want to get involved. ” We have so many talented students at Wilson Central in all facets of what we do. It’s a great opportunity for students to get involved.” Holladay continued,”We are always “recruiting” students that can help.” One of the great things the Department hopes to accomplish is to guide students at something they are interested in and make them better. Broadcasting/streaming of athletic events is a focal point of the group which exposes the students to a TV type production–ESPN like event. Students take pictures, make videos, help with audio and computer programming announce the play by plays as well as keep the website up and running—www.wilsoncentralsports.com.
The Wilson Central Sports Network will begin in a few short days/weeks their yearly drive of subscriptions for individuals to take advantage so they can watch games at home or on the road when they are physically unable to attend. Players relatives like grandparents can watch the game from anywhere in the world. WCSN receives half of the subscription rate which is put towards equipment and needed supplies. They also offer advertising that not only help them but also help local merchants with their business. Advertising for businesses is essential to their lively hood and advertising on WCSN can provide that avenue to help the community, school and the local supporters of Wilson Central High School. Generating over 400,000 website visits to wilsoncentralsports.com is a great way to advertise and again the Sports Information Department wants to help those who help them.
If your reading this and you know of someone that you think would like to join the group or who can benefit from this avenue of advertising have them contact Coach Holladay at the school or email him at HolladayJ@wcschools.com.
