Wilson Central pulled off an upset win over district leader Hendersonville in a shutout from Matthew Jenkinson, winning 3-0.
The Wildcats were looking to carry their momentum from their Saturday win over Oakland into the biggest series of the year with the Commandos. Jenkinson was set to take on Brandon Tucker of Hendersonville on the rubber. The game started out with the Wildcats attacking quickly with a run in the top of the first. The Commandos were unable to answer in the bottom of the the inning, and the Wildcats continued to pressure Hendersonville after tallying another run in the third. Tucker was pulled after four innings, and Auburn-signee Hayden Mullins took the mound for the Commandos. Mullins allowed no hits or walks in his 2.1-inning appearance, but Jenkinson’s pitching continued to blank the Commandos. Mullins was pulled after 32 pitches, and the Wildcats notched another run in the seventh. This gave the Wildcats their third district win of the season, and quite possibly their biggest.
Jenkinson fanned 3 batters in his complete game shutout, and he also knocked in a run on his one hit. Cole Fergusson led Wildcat hitting with a two, and Gabe Jennings and McKane Everett each had RBIs. Jackson Odette recorded another hit, and he also drew a walk. Mullins struck out 6 in his first appearance since the beginning of the season, but the Wildcats out-hit the Commandos 6 to 5.
The Wildcats now sit at 12-8 (3-4), and they will host the Commandos tonight at 7:00p.m. The game will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.
