Wilson Central fell to Hernando High School (MS) in their first game of the Panama City Beach Invitational by a score of 2-0.
The game was a quick, 3-hit affair, ultimately a pitcher’s duel between Wildcat Matthew Jenkinson and Ben Brantley of Hernando, with Gary Denton tossing the last inning for the Wildcats. Both had strong starts, as the two combined for 16 strikeouts on the afternoon. However, neither team was able to get an offense going early in the game. Wilson Central’s sole hit came from Jackson Odette, and Brantley helped his own cause with a two-run home run to bring Hernando’s only two runs across the plate.
Behind Brantley’s defense from the mound and the plate, Hernando was able to come out with the win over the Wildcats in Game One of the Invitational. The Wildcats will take on St. John Paul II High School at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow, looking to get back in the win column after an 0-1 start to the season.
