Multiple Teams · Football- Wildcats fall to Beech 21-13 in season opener

TEAM #17 of the still young Wilson Central High School played on August 18th against the Buccaneers of Beech High School.  Beech opened the scoring as Senior Quarterback Nelson Smith found Dyllin Hoosier for a 58 yd strike with 4:09 left in the 1st quarter to seize the early lead 7-0.  Approximately 8 minutes later in the 2nd quarter, Wildcat Senior quarterback Aaron Hubble was intercepted for a pick 6 by Garrett Butler making the score 14-0 Beech. With 5:35 left in the half, Beech struck again.  This time on a run by Kaemon Dunlap of 43 yards to paydirt to give the Buccaneers a 21-0 halftime lead.  Wilson Central was their worst enemy in the 1st half with multiple turnovers that Beech capitalized on to take the commanding lead.

After halftime adjustments were made by Wilson Central,  the Wildcat defense held Beech scoreless in the 2nd half while the offense, although sputtering at times, managed to cut into the lead with 7:21 left in the third quarter.  Hubbell found Senior Dalton King from 11 yards out for a touchdown cutting into the Beech lead to make the score 21-6.  Wilson Central’s last touchdown came with 1:44 left in the game as Hubbell  found Garrett Todd for a 10 yard touchdown making the score 21-13.

Wilson Central held Beech on 4th down with less than :50 seconds from mid-field only to have the chance be stopped on a enzone interception by Ty Dean to seal the win for Beech with :09 seconds left to play.

Unofficial stats saw Wilson Central out gain Beech 290 yards to 225.  The Wildcats went 23-41 for 193 yards passing while running for only 24 yards.  The big stat was the turnover.  2 interceptions and 3 drops were just to much for the Wildcats to overcome.

Next Week Wilson Central will travel to Smyrna to take on the Bulldogs in a revival of the rivals from the earlier years of WC existence.  Gametime is slated for 7:00.  WCSN will again broadcast the game live beginning around 6:20.
