Wilson Central High School Principal Travis Mayfield announced Thursday of the hiring of Jeff Keller to become the school’s third basketball coach in the short 17 year history of WCHS. Keller returns to the Middle Tennessee area where he graduated from David Lipscomb High School ’92 and Lipscomb University ’96. Keller will be moving to the Mt. Juliet area in the near future with his wife Jenna and two children Emma, 11 and Lily 8. Coach Keller learned his craft from two of the best coaches in Middle Tennessee Basketball folk lore Coach Mike Roller and legendary Coach the late Don Meyer.
In his initial meet and greet of the players, parents and faculty, Coach Keller outlined how thrilled he was to be the Lady Wildcats Coach and thanked Mr. Mayfield for giving him this opportunity. Having coached at all levels of basketball he spoke about how he enjoyed high school coaching which allows him to interact with young people. Unlike college coaching where travel and recruiting hampered family time, high school age allows him to be around home. Keller said, ” One of the most essential aspects for a program is to believe in family.” Other elements that a successful program needs are passion, unity, humility, servanthood and thankfulness.
Coach Keller, who will be teaching social studies, announced that he would be sitting down with the team to begin the process for summer practices and workouts and to start the transition as soon as possible.
