District 9AAA was flipped upside down last night (Monday) as 3 of the top 4 seeds were dealt losses in the opening round of the tournament. The Lady Wildcats just could not get the key hit when needed and Hendersonville did as the Lady Commandos won the game 3-2. The Lady Commandos #4 hitter Alex Beavers sent a 1-2 pitch to deep center field in the direction of Lady Wildcat Sophomore Laney Tucker as she had to watch the softball sail well over the fence. That pushed the lead to 3-0 for Hendersonville as Wilson Central was held scoreless until the bottom of the 6th. With runners on 2nd and 3rd Senior Eboni Jordan connected on the key hit that Wilson Central had been waiting for cutting the lead to 1 run—3-2. Hendersonville’s top of the 7th was fruitless as the defense for Wilson Central snuffed out any charge for the visitors to mount an insurance run. In the bottom of the 7th, Wilson Central knew they were one pitch away from possibly tying the game. Senior 2nd baseman Claire Smith reached 1st base with one out but the offense could not muster another key hit as the Lady Wildcats slipped into the losers bracket.
Wilson Central will now face Beech in the loser’s bracket as the Lady Bucs fell victim to the 8th seed Gallatin 6-3. These two team’s now face elimination today (Tuesday)as the loser packs it up for another season and the winner advances through the losers bracket and survives for another game.
