Wilson Central continued district tournament play with a winners bracket victory against Hendersonville on Monday night. The Wildcats had Ryan Hill on the mound in the hopes he would capture the 2nd win of the tournament. He did just that pitching a complete game giving up 9 hits and striking out 9 Commando batters in Central’s 4-1 victory.
The bats for both teams started off slow with nobody crossing home plate until the bottom of the 3rd. Peyton Hill was hit by a pitch and reached 1st base and advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Connor Sullivan. This was followed by a base on balls to Mason Mobley giving Wilson Central runners at 1st and 2nd. With 2 outs Ethan Shelton came through with a huge RBI hit to deep center field scoring pinch runner Cole Ferguson from second and advancing Mobley to 3rd. Dawson Hamilton hit a fly ball on the first pitch at bat scoring Mobley and Shelton as Hamilton reached on an error. On the next play Andrew Franklin doubled deep to right field scoring Hamilton. With the Wildcats now leading 4-0 thanks to Franklin’s double, the Wildcats had enough run support to hold Hendersonville off for the rest of the game as the Commandos scored their 1st and only run in the top of the 7th.
The Wildcats will now await the winner of the Mount Juliet / Hendersonville game to be played today Tuesday May 9 at 4:00pm. Wilson Central will then play the winner at 7:00pm.
On a side note the Hendersonville win was Wildcat Head Coach Anthony Ford’s 301st win as his 300th win came on Saturday against Portland in the Wildcat’s 6-0 victory.
