Multiple Teams · Baseball–Ethan Shelton hits 3 RBI triple in 5th inning to propel Central over Hendersonville 5-3.

Hendersonville—The Wildcats of Wilson Central defeated Hendersonville 5-3 on Wednesday March 29th after taking the lead in the top of the 5th. The Commandos held the lead 2-1 when the Wildcats did their damage . After scoring their 2nd run by a bases loaded hit by pitch, Dawson Hamilton recorded an RBI single scoring Matthew Jenkinson while advancing the other runners and making the score 2-2 in the top of the 5th inning to make the bases loaded.

Then, DSC_0617Ethan Shelton steps to the plate and comes thru with a clutch 3 RBI triple to right field for the Wildcats to make the score 5-2.  The Wildcats gave up another run in the bottom of the 5th making the score 5-3 which turned out to be the final score.

Hendersonville did not go quietly however, as the Commandos loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh.  South paw Andrew Franklin was called on in relief of Hill after a base on balls walk. Franklin walked the first batter he faced to put runners on 1st and 2nd before Franklin struck out the next batter.  Head Coach Anthony Ford opted for right hander Aaron Hubbell who walked the first batter he faced with 4 pitches to load the bases with one out.  The excitement continued to build as Hubbell “brought the heat” to strike out the last two batters with ten pitches with both going down swinging to preserve the big district win for the Wildcats.

DSC_1310Senior Ryan Hill earned the win for Wilson Central as he threw six innings, surrendering three runs on four hits while striking out nine Commandos and walking only one. Hayden Mullins took the loss for Hendersonville as he pitched four and a third innings, surrendering four runs, no hits, and striking out nine.
Dawson Hamilton and Ethan Shelton each managed one hit to lead Wilson Central but oh how big those hits were.  Wildcats capture their 7th win of the year against 3 defeats.
