The 2016-17 Lady Wildcat Basketball season is officially over…. now that the team has had their end of the year team celebration. Players, parents, relatives, friends and coaches gathered at the Wilson Central High School Cafeteria Tuesday evening March 28 to remember the success of the 2016-17 basketball season and the contributions of the last 4 years by 4 Seniors who leave Wilson Central a little bit better than when they arrived and maybe in some circumstances a whole lot better. Guest speaker at the banquet was Tennessee Tech Head Women’s Coach Kim Rosamond who spoke about how to always leave something better than when you arrived. With this group of Seniors, she nailed it right on the head.
The four seniors—Anna Altman, Addison Byrd, PIper Elrod and Nathalie Ventura each have left their mark on a program that to most is still very young. A program that enjoyed success since the opening of the school in 2001—16 years ago. A program that has had appearances in the state tournament in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2016. These 4 Seniors have left a mark that will be hard to overcome. Total wins/losses: 104-23, Played in 3 District Championship games winning 2 of them, played in 3 region tournaments winning 1 and, advanced to the 2016 state tournament as Juniors. After Coach Rosamond speech to the parents and players, Lady Wildcat Coach John Wild began the award presentations. He started with the Seniors indicating the success that these 4 young ladies have had since arriving at Wilson Central mentioning that the Seniors will all attend universities to further their education. He followed with the remaining team members by each class praising them for their hard work ethic showed throughout the season.
Pictured above left to right are the Award winners. Sophomore Dottie McSpadden receiving the Jr. Varsity award. Senior Anna Altman receiving the “Big Team Little Me” award. Senior Nathalie Ventura receiving the Highest Field Goal % award while Senior Addison Byrd was awarded the Best Teammate Award voted on by her teammates and the Most Valuable Player Award. Senior Piper Elrod was also awarded the Most Valuable Player and maybe more importantly the Team Leadership Award recipient. Rounding out the award winners was Junior Taylor Tucker receiving awards for rebounding and defense and Freshmen Lindsey Freeman being awarded the Most Improved Player and everyone’s favorite—“The Gym Rat” award.
Congratulations to all the members and the coaching staff of the Lady Wildcats as the “Wildcat Nation” bids a sad but memorable goodbye to 4 wonderful Seniors and a “see ya next year” for the remaining members of the 2016-17 Wilson Central Lady Wildcat Basketball Team.
GO LADY WILDCATS!!!!!!!!!
