Girls Varsity Tennis · Tennis–Lady Wildcats drop 5-4 decision to Blackman

The Lady Wildcats hosted undefeated Blackman, and led for most of the match before dropping the final three doubles to lose 5-4.
Wilson Central (1-3) roared out of the gate by claiming four of the first six matches in singles as sophomore Savannah Westbrook defeated William Wiemann 8-2, and sophomore Sydney Miller handled Nathalie Walker 8-3.
Senior Jennifer Beckham downed Amiya Kertchaval 8-2, and sophomore Alex Roanhouse pushed the advantage to 4-2 in favor of Wilson Central.
However, a shorthanded doubles rotation dropped all three matches to the Lady Blaze with Westbrook and junior Cassie Joslin giving up an 8-3 loss to Anna Mincey and Wiemann at the number one doubles position.
Pairing together for the first time this season, Beckham and Miller fell behind early, but their comeback fell just short, dropping an 8-6 loss to Maddie Penney and Walker.
Sophomores Makayla Posey and Kaylee Wilson filled in at the three doubles position, but fell 8-2 to Kertchaval and Cunningham.
Wilson Central will open next week with a pair of non-district meetings as they host White House on Monday, and travel to Station Camp on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Wildcats travel to Drakes Creek to take on perennial District 9-AAA front runner Hendersonville.
