LEBANON— The Wilson Central boys tennis team moved to 2-0 in District 9-AAA play with a 5-2 win over county rival Mt. Juliet Thursday afternoon at Wilson Central.
The Wildcats (2-0, 2-0 overall), raced out to a 2-0 lead in doubles as seniors Houston Wood and Akbar Rahmani defeated the Mt. Juliet duo of Sophomore Dillon Smith and Senior Matt Haynes 8-3 at the number one doubles spot while at the 2 spot in doubles,
Sophomore Michael Mercante and Junior Andrew Denning quickly followed up with an 8-3 triumph.
Wood paced the Wildcats to a 3-0 lead over Mt. Juliet (0-1, 1-1 overall) with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Haynes before Mercante’s deciding point at one singles closed out Smith 6-3, 6-2.
Freshman Evan Flint picked up Mt. Juliet’s first win at the three position in singles as he defeated Rahmani 0-6, 6-4, (10-8).
Denning picked up the last point of the match for Wilson Central as the junior eliminated junior Josh Wiggins 8-2.
Mt. Juliet’s Gamble defeated Braden Hammer 8-6.
