Saturday proved to be a great day for the Lady Wildcats as they played in the District 9AAA semi-finals against The Lady Bucs of Beech High School. Wilson Central fans did not have to much to cheer about as the girls from the Glade could only manage 2 points in the first quarter, the lowest point production of the season. Beech continued their defensive pressure however so did the Lady Wildcats. Wilson Central held Beech to only 6 points in the low-scoring quarter that saw shot after shot falling off the rim or just missing their mark. The opening of the second quarter offered more defense from the Lady Wildcats as they were scrambling from everywhere on the court, double teaming, and deflecting passes. That was all good for the Lady Wildcats as they looked to their defense to get their offense started, and it did. Piper Elrod stepped up to the 3 pt arc and sank 9 of her 14 points for the game just in the second quarter as Wilson Central only allowed Beech to score 2 points and take a halftime lead into the locker room 18-8. Opening of the third quarter continued the onslaught of defense from Wilson Central only allowing Beech to score 10 points for the remainder of the game. Nathalie Ventura, who scored 6 points, came up big in this game who for the most part of the season was used as “the enforcer.” Scrapping inside with the other inside players on defense but she just might have sent a message that she can score which creates problems for future oppositions. Addison Byrd entered this game with a hot hand scoring more than 20 points in each of the last 3 games however, this night was just one of those nights scoring 7 points with all but 1 point coming late in the 4th quarter when it seemed that Beech may be trying to make a run but her points ended it. Others scoring for Wilson Central was Freshmen Lindsey Freeman with 6 and Kenadhi Killebrew with 4.
