The Lady Wildcats of Wilson Central High School competed in the Soddy Daisy Invitational Softball Tournament over the weekend of April 14-15. They were placed in a pool of 4 teams playing those 3 on Friday. The first game was Meigs County from Dunlap Tennessee. In game one, the Lady Wildcats fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 9-2 loss to Meigs County on Friday.With one out in the inning, The Lady Tigers scored first off a double by Madison Crabtree and a single by Linsey Ward in the first inning.
Meigs County scored again with three runs in the third inning as Savannah Scott earned the win for Meigs County. She threw three innings, surrendering two runs, five hits, and walking one. Kaylee Richetto took the loss for the lady wildcats. She tossed three innings, surrendering five runs, six hits, striking out one, and walking one.
The Lady Wildcats collected seven hits. Kenzey Meador and Richetto each collected multiple hits. Richetto and Meador each collected two hits to lead Wilson Central.
Wilson Central played two more games on Friday winning both. The first victim was tournament host Soddy Daisy as Freshmen pitcher Tayrn Pastore earned the 4-3 win. The second win came at the expense of Sequatchie County in a 8-3 victory as Ashley Foster for Wilson Central earned the win.
Winning 3 games in the pool play placed Wilson Central in the single elimnation Gold Bracket tournament.
Christian Academy of Knoxville was the opponent in the “semi-finals”. Playing under time limits both teams played the 7th inning under extra-inning rules placing a runner at 2nd base. Wilson Central’s 7th inning had Laney Tucker placed at second but was gunned down at third stealing for the first out followed by the 2nd and third out by ground outs. CAK placed their runner on second in the bottom of the 7th. The first batter for CAK drove a line drive off the center field fence to score the runner from second and take the win from the Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Wildcats return to the Glade to host Beech in a key District 9AAA match up on Wednesday April 19. First pitch is 5:00pm.
