GLADEVILLE – The Wilson Central girls tennis team took on Lebanon  Monday April 10th at Wilson Central High School in a non-district affair. After falling behind 2-1 in doubles, the Lady Wildcats battled back for a 6-3 win.

Wilson Central (5-3) DSC_1827started off in great shape as seniors Jennifer Beckham and Lani Lee raced out to an 8-0 win at one doubles over Morgan Harmon and Sidney Kurtz to give their team an early advantage.

Lebanon quickly battled back as the duo of Adyson Palmer and Nicole Bashour won a tight 9-7 decision over sophomores Sydney Miller and Alex Roanhouse. Miller and Roanhouse held a 7-5 lead before Bashour and Palmer claimed the final four games of the number two doubles contest.

Things continued to spiral downward for Wilson Central as Mattie Post and Hannah Lawson eased past sophomores Makayla Posey and Kaylee Wilson 8-1 to take the number three doubles spot and a 2-1 lead going into singles play.

Despite facing a deficit, Wilson Central dominated singles play as the Lady Wildcats claimed five of the six positions.

Last year’s District 9-AAA All-District selection sophomore DSC_2048Jacey Staggs played in her first match of the season at the top singles position where she claimed an 8-5 win over Harman. Staggs injured her ankle in the team’s first scrimmage of the year against Stewarts Creek nearly five weeks ago.

Wilson Central continued to dominate singles play at positions two through four singles spots as Lee toppled Kurtz 8-1 to claim the win at the number two spot, while sophomore Savannah Westbrook followed suit with an 8-1 win over Palmer.

Junior Cassie Joslin clinched the match for Wilson Central with an 8-4 decision over Bashour.

Lebanon picked up its first win in singles as Lawson defeated freshman Victoria Vita 9-7. The Lady Wildcats claimed the final point of the match with an 8-4 win by freshman DSC_0236Makena Lantz over Post.

Wilson Central will be in action on Tuesday in a matchup against Hume-Fogg at Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville.  The Lady Wildcats will host White House on Wednesday while finishing the week at home on Thursday against District 9-AAA foe Portland.
