The TSSAA version of “March Madness” begins with the 2017 District 9 AAA basketball tournament on Wednesday February 15 at Lebanon High School. Wilson Central (26-2 overall, 13-1 and the number one seed in District 9AAA is ranked #6 in the state of Tennessee. They begin their quest for a possible return to the Glass House with the opening game of the tournament taking on Gallatin at 6:30pm. This game will be followed at 8:00 as 2nd seed Station Camp will play Portland. On Thursday, the girls portion of the tournament continues as Hendersonville (3rd seed) will try to keep Mt. Juliet (6th seed) from advancing to the Region 5AAA tournament for the first time since 1986. The concluding game of the day will be Lebanon vs. Beech at 8:00.
The Boys Tournament will begin on Friday with 4 games which will showcase all 8 district teams in what has been a topsy turvy regular season with all 8 teams having competitive games all year. The first game will begin at 4:00 with 2nd seeded Mt. Juliet playing 7th seeded Hendersonville. The 5:30 match-up will be Sumner County rivals as Gallatin, the 3rd seed will be playing Station Camp the 6th seed. The third game of the day pits Portland against the regular season Champion Blue Devils of Lebanon while the final game of the day, slated for 8:00pm will have Wilson Central playing the Beech Buccaneers.
Winners of their first district tournament game will advance into the Region 5AAA tournament that begins play next week. But first, will be the District 9AAA tournament as all winners on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will play on Saturday in the District Semi-finals that will begin on Saturday at 4:00.
