Wilson Central entered their season finale against the Golden Bears of Mt. Juliet Friday night with high expectations of winning their 4th in a row against the top 4 teams of District 9AAA. Playing the last game prior to entering the district tournament next week, the Wildcats fell prey to cold shooting. Mt. Juliet outscored Wilson Central 16-11 in the first quarter and by the end of the half MJ held a commanding 35-20 lead.
Wildcat Head Coach Chris Carney went into the locker room and whatever was said or changed seemed to have helped defensively allowing only 4 Golden Bear points to be scored in the third quarter However, offensive woes continue for the Cats scoring only 6 points themselves. Playing in front of a full house the Wildcats cut the lead to 9 mid-way through the 4th quarter but just could not hit that shot needed to get any closer as the Bears held on to the #2 seed in Distrct 9AAA with the win. Leading the way in the scoring column was Junior Gavin Johnson with 13 followed by Cole Booth’s 8 and Zay Kerns 7. Rounding out the scoring was Kene Aruh putting in 6 while his brother Kito Aruh scored 4. Dawson Hamilton was held to 3 points while Nate Ochoa scored his only 3 pointer in the fourth stanza.
The Wildcats who finished tied for 5th with Station camp with an 7-7 record will be seeded 5th winning the tiebreaker over The Bison and will now open their District 9AAA Tournament at Lebanon High School on Friday at 8:30 against 4th seeded Beech Buccaneers who defeated Wilson Central in both of their regular season games. Winner of this game advances to the Region 5AAA tournament the following week while the loser takes the uniforms up to wash and pack for next year.
